Fifteen years after the first Cover Your Hearts show, we’re bringing back CYH veterans Lael Alderman, RISLEY, The Frequence, Camp Crush & Deepest Darkest!

Since its launch in 2008 by local shoegazers Charmparticles, CYH has provided local musicians and fans a way to give back to their community. Proceeds from this year’s show will benefit the Jeremy Wilson Foundation, a local charity dedicated to providing emergency financial assistance to & improving the overall well-being of musicians & their families during times of medical crisis.

CYH pairs local musicians with 80s (& the occasional 90s) songs about love, breaking up, & …getting intimate. Past performances like Bryan Free’s now legendary Pat Benatar/Linda Ronstadt/Yes set from 2010, Dr. Theopolis’ touching rendition of “More Than Words”, Jaycob Van Auken’s shirt-ripping cover of Foreigner’s “Hot Blooded”, Derby’s sultry “I Wanna Sex You Up” & Metal Bear’s raucous version of “Girls, Girls, Girls” keep us coming back for more year after year.

There is NO SERVICE FEES for buying tickets online for this show. This means that 100% of your ticket purchases go directly to supporting the JWF Musician Health & Services Program. Your support makes music!

Jubu Smith http://www.jubusmith.com Smith spent a decade with R&B group, Tony, Toni, Tone before going on the road for a year and a half with Whitney Houston. For the past 15 years, he’s been touring internationally eight months per year, primarily on weekends, with Maze, featuring Frankie Beverly. Those credits don’t include countless recording sessions with the likes of Luther Vandross, Mary J. Blige, Boyz II Men, Toni Braxton, George Duke and George Benson.

Trumpeter Farnell Newton is one of the most versatile musicians & educators in the Northwest, playing straight ahead jazz, funk, Latin music, soul, hip hop, and more. Outer Orbit is a funk soul collective led by Galen Clark (Trio Subtonic) and fronted by vocalist Sarah Clarke (Dirty Revival). The band features an all star lineup of Tyrone Hendrix (Prince), Damian Erskine (Skerik Band), Mike Elson (Swatkins) and Trent Baarspul.

Outer Orbit brings original burning soul and pocket heavy funk while drawing on a range of influences from Sly Stone and The Meters to Aretha Franklin and Emily King.

Noah Simpson

In the short time Noah Simpson has lived in Portland, he has established himself as one of the top trumpet players in the area. He attended Portland State University under the Brad Merserau scholarship while studying with George Colligan and Darrell Grant. As a recent college graduate, Noah is a fixture of the Portland Jazz community sharing his passion for Black American music throughout the west coast.

Noah has performed with renowned musicians such as Bernard Purdie, Lewis Nash, Alex Acuna, Jaleel Shaw, Sean Jones, and Dennis Rowland. In addition he has also toured around the country with groups such as Ron Artis II, Climbing Poetree, and Taina Asili.
